OVERVIEW

Trumbull Corporation, in a Joint Venture with Brayman Construction, is constructing a new batch plant and lock wall at Charleroi Locks and Dam on the Monongahela River. Unusual construction techniques will be utilized in order to construct the new lock wall, which will tie into an existing stub wall that was built in the 1960’s. The new lock wall is 884 feet long, 35 feet wide and 52 feet high with 54-inch and 78-inch drilled shafts supporting the wall. The lock will be built “in the wet” using underwater formwork and tremie concrete techniques. The Joint Venture will also install a sophisticated batch plant and conveyor system at the site to deliver the concrete across the dam to the new lock wall.
